Well it's pretty obvious that blondes are seen as pretty, good-natured, and lovable, red-heads are supposed to be bad-tempered misfits, and brunettes are the boring ones who are responsible and resourceful. Doesn't make much sense, and that's why the stereotypes should be turned on their heads. Make an angry, impulsive blonde, or a popular, out-going brunette. They DO exist, it's just authors find it easier to tell personalities with appearances then with actual description and character interaction. It's a short-cut, I guess. But people aren't stereotypes in real-life and they shoudln't be stereotypes in literature.
