How can the American Government not denounce the dictator of Egypt's rule out of fear...?

that the protests will be labeled "pro-western," or to a further extent, "pro-American," which would somehow ruin the operation as some in the West have suggested? How can the protests be labeled "pro-American" when they're fighting a dictator who was and is backed by the United States?
